WACEM22@Malaysia... Truly Asia

WACEM2022– The 8th World Academic Congress of Emergency Medicine was held from 14th November 20022 – 18th November 2022 in Kuala Lumpur -The Capital of the Royal Nation of Malaysia.

The World Congress was held in a Hybrid Format and had many speakers who presented online and in person from across the world and across 9 Time Zones.

WACEM2022 enjoyed the unrestricted support of the Ministry of Health of Malaysia and various agencies.

The International Tabletop Exercise and Communication in Disaster Medicine Exercise (TOPCOM X) was held simultaneously with WACEM22.

WACEM22 was led by Emergency and Trauma Department of Hospital Selayang, in collaboration with multiple other agencies and organizations.

The Scientific Chairman for WACEM22 was Datuk Dr. Mohamed Alwi Bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Head of Department and Consultant of Emergency Medicine and Disaster Management, Seylang University Hospital, a tertiary teaching referral hospital in Seylang, Kaulalampur, Malaysia.

The pre-conference covered a wide range of topics, including critical care, prehospital care and trauma, wilderness medicine, CBRNE, tactical medicine, ultrasound and many more.

The World Congress began with a grand Inauguration and multiple workshops attended by over 500 Delegates.

The Massive Disaster Exercise held on 16th November 2022 was a super hit.

The Congress attracted over 1000 Delegates and provided over 200 Hours of education by 200 + Faculty from 20+ Countries.

Academic Experts from all over the world including USA, UK, India, Australia, Qatar, Singapore, Japan, Sri Lanka and Nepal participated in WACEM +TOPCOM2022

A Special WACEM Videoconference was held with The African Conference of Emergency Medicine AFCEM in GHANA on the issue of Global Health Security.

The WACEM Women Leaders Conference was held on 16th November.

Malaysia presented itself to the world as a hub for Quality Academics with High Quality Education, Research and Patient Care.

WACEM2022 Scientific Chairman Dr. Alwi deserved all the credit for making WACEM2022 a grand success.

Attended by over 1000 delegates WACEM2018 set new benchmarks for Global EM Conferencing with its 5 days of hard-core education by over 200 world faculty.

“Through his vision to achieve disaster preparedness, Datuk Dr Mohamed Alwi bin Abd Rahman, the Emergency and Trauma Head of Department, Hospital Selayang, initiated the Tabletop Exercise and Communication in Disaster Medicine (TOPCOM) at national Level. Alongside the alarmingly increasing numbers of natural calamities and man-made disasters within the region, there has been a growing need for professional coordinated responses. Therefore, Datuk Dr. Mohamad Alwi envisioned the urgency for a closer collaboration not only between the Malaysian agencies but beyond – into the wider international community.

Professor Dr. Basar Cander President of Emergency Physicians Association of Turkey took over as the Secretary General / President of The World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine for the Year 2023.
