Simulation Metabolism @ Manipal

A innovative interdisciplinary simulation workshop on the inborn errors of metabolism was conducted by The Department of Emergency Medicine and Department of Pediatrics, Kasturba Medical college, Manipal, MAHEat Simulation lab.The Department of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics were privileged to be the part of the 3rd INDO-GERMAN Metabolic Meeting organized by the Department of Biochemistry, Kasturba Medical college, Manipal, MAHE.

The workshop was involving heterogeneous group of delegates belonging to Departments of Biochemistry , Pediatrics, Neonatology and General Medicine took part. A total of 102 registrations for the simulation session is a testimonial for the success of this workshop.

The brief description about the workshop was given by Dr Apurv Barche from the Department of Pediatrics.

The simulated scenario includes a neonate with inborn error of metabolism.The delegates were taken through the History, Initial Assesment and Management in a systematic way by the following faculties- Dr. Apurv Barche, Department of Pediatrics; Dr, Sanjan. A, Dr. Vijaya Kumara, Dr. Sachin S, Dr. Santhosh and Dr. Ramya Kumar from the department of Emergency Medicine.

The primary objectives of the workshop were to share good practice and provide an overview of the approach to the inborn errors of metabolism.The workshop concluded with a take home message that interdisciplinary team approach and shared decision making helps in the early and prompt identification of the inborn errors of metabolism.

Simulation sciences were taken to a new level with this exceptional workshop based on Inborn Errors of Metabolism and forged a new domain with the unique partnership between acute care clinicians in the adult and pediatric realm.

The Department of Emergency Medicine spearheaded by Prof Dr.Jayaraj, a pioneer leader in Indian Academic Emergency Medicine under the INDUSEM collaborative stresses on the need for innovation and integration of technology to catalyze the growth of Indian Emergency Medicine for global equity.
