INDUSEM Leaders Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi, Director of WHO-CCET (Collaborating Centre for Emergency and Trauma), & Dr. Tej Prakash Sinha, Co-Director of WHO-CCET Championed the World Health Organization (WHO) Conference SAFETY24 – The 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion held in New Delhi from 2nd – 4th September 2024.

The Theme of SAFETY24 was “Building a Safer Future for All: Equitable and Sustainable Strategies for Injury and Violence Prevention,”

Shri. Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Government of India Minister of Road Transport and Highways addressed SAFETY24 along with Dr. V K Paul, from NITI Aayog.

The event attracted 700 participants from 57 countries, including experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, bureaucrats, and politicians.

A special session on Strengthening Governance and Improving Data for Injury Prevention was conducted which was attended by representatives from Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The session focused on injury prevention strategies for the WHO Southeast Asia Region.

Role of Nurses in Injury Prevention was highlighted in the State-of-the-art Global Surgery & Trauma Session, where Ms. Roopa Rawat, Regional Nursing Lead for WHO SEAR, represented nurses and highlighted various nurse-led initiatives aimed at improving global access to quality care through empowerment and task sharing.

Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi Director for WHO-CCET emphasized the importance of Implementation research, resource mapping, and gap analysis to develop sustainable solutions for injury prevention.

Six presentations abstracted By Dr. Tej Prakash, Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi, Ms. Roopa Rawat, Neha, Ms. Dolly Sharma, Dr. Karthikayen, Ms. Shusmita Chauhan, Ms. Archana Nair, Mr. Himanshi Bhardwaj, Ms. Kalpana Arya, Ms. Manvi Sharma, Ms. Ishani Mishra, showcased India’s advancements in trauma care and emergency response systems, contributing significantly to the global discourse on injury prevention and the development of sustainable, equitable strategies for future safety promotion.

WHO-SAFETY24 was organized in with the Department of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS, Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Centre (TRIP) at IIT Delhi, the Department of Epidemiology at NIMHANS and The George Institute (TGI) for Global Health.
