PTRM in PURAB

The Pediatric Trauma Resuscitation Module (PTRM) was developed as a part of the Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR project to promote the use of evidence-based practice in the early identification of life-threatening events and timely management of pediatric trauma patients.

The Fifth National Training of Trainers (TOT) Program and the first in Eastern India was conducted at the Centre for Experiential Learning and Simulation, AIIMS Guwahati from 28th to 29th March, 2025. 40 ace instructors were trained over 2 days by INDUSEM Leader Dr. Neha Thakur who was also the Program Director. PTRM was the first course conducted in the newly inaugurated Centre for Experiential Learning and Simulation at AIIMS Guwahati.

The Course was inaugurated by the Executive Director Professor Colonel Dr Ashok Puranik, Dean Dr Manasi Bhattacharjee, Sim Chairperson Dr Purabi Phukan and Organising Secretary Dr Nisha Toteja. The course was conducted by international faculty (Dr Jabeen Fayyaz, Medical Director – SimKids Simulation Program, Toronto, Dr Muhammed EM Elgasim, Ireland)  and national faculty (Dr Neha Thakur Rai, Prof. Samir Misra, Dr Chetan Ginigeri, Dr Aravind A, Dr Anita Tarigopula, Dr Vaibhav Jaiswal, Dr Nisha Toteja, Dr Midhun Mohan N, Dr Jyothiswaroop and Dr Soumya Singh. 

Amongst others prominently PTRM was supported by ICMR, NIHFW, WHO-SEARO, University of MICHIGHAN, Dr RMLIMS, KGMU, INDUSEM, EMA – ACEE, & IAP –PEM.

The maiden event was attended by over 60 participants and faculty.

The course included interactive lectures and skills stations on life saving skills such as basic and advanced airway management including video laryngoscopy and surgical airway, breathing with ventilation including needle decompression and ICD insertion, circulation with hemorrhage control, log roll, C-spine stabilisation, fracture immobilisation, point of care ultrasonography, trauma imaging and simulation based learning using high fidelity manikins.

About Dr. Neha Thakur Rai

Dr. Thakur is the Joint Secretary for Pediatric Emergency Medicine at The Emergency Medicine Association. She serves as the Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS. After completing her MBBS from Calcutta University, Kolkata she went on to get her MD in Pediatrics from the prestigious Benaras Hindu University in Varanasi.
