The Super Specialty of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) made a beginning in India AIIMS, Raipur.
Led by INDUSEM Leader Dr. Anil KumarGoel (M.D, Professor & Head Department of Pediatricsand PEM), Dr. Varun Anand (MD, DNB, Department of Trauma and Emergency- Pediatrics) and Dr. Santosh KumarRathia (MD, Department of Trauma and Emergency- Pediatrics) along withtrained nursing officers constitutedthis new academic history making DM Program.
All the above faculty are distinguished Fellows of The Academic College of Emergency Experts of India.
The DM Program is a 3-year training pathway, which sets a benchmark for other colleges to follow the same guidelines and start this program recognized by NMC. This also gives a path for NBE to start a DNB in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
The First Super Specialty DM Candidate of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Dr. Swasti Keshri, MD, DNB (Pediatrics) graduated from VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi joined her training in September 2020.
“The Development of Pediatric Emergency Medicine as a super specialty is credited to the tireless efforts of the INDUSEM Leaders and The Fellows of The Academic College of Emergency Experts of India. The Leadership of Prof. AK Goel and the Support of Honorable AIIMS Raipur Director & CEO Dr. Nagarkar is historic. This will set the path for other medical schools across India to start a DM Program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, which will be a new path for MCI/NBE Recognized Residency Trained Emergency Physicians and Pediatricians.
