The Division of Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Dept of Pediatrics, AIIMS Raipur in collaboration with EMA Chhattisgarh organised a 3-day Hands on Skills Based Life support school.
Certified by the American Heart Association (AHA), AIIMS Raipur conducted the BLS & PALS Workshop from 18/01/2025 to 20/01/2025.
It was led by course director Prof (Dr) Sandeep Sahu, Professor of Anaesthesiology, SGPGI, Lucknow. The Chief Guest, Director-cum-CEO of AIIMS Raipur, Lt. Gen Dr. Ashok Jindal (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ND, DIH, PhD chaired the inaugural session of the Workshop on 18/01/2025 and wished the participants and faculty a memorable learning experience. Academic Senior Residents & Junior Residents from the Depts of Paediatrics of AIIMS Raipur and Pt. JNM Medical College Hospital Raipur attended the workshop and benefitted from this Academic Bonanza.
The Workshop served as an eye-opening opportunity for the relatively new resident doctors towards the appropriate, timed and systematic emergency approach with Hands-on learning of the essential, life-saving skills in Pediatric Emergency Room like – CPR(Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) & Manual Defibrillator, management of Pediatric Airway including Advanced Airway Placement, recognition & identification of Respiratory Distress in children and the management options, identification & management of Shock in children, Intraosseous Needle placement and identification & management of abnormal cardiac rhythms in children including the Cardiac Arrest rhythms. It also provided an opportunity for the residents to revise the basic skills and principles involved in resuscitating a sick child. The Video based demonstrations before the Hands-on Training enabled the students to understand the core principles and differences of Pediatric Basic & Advanced Resuscitation in comparison to the adult guidelines.
The workshop included eminent faculty, AHA certified BLS and PALS instructor, Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Sahu, Professor of Anaesthesiology, Sanjeev Gandhi PG Institute, Lucknow and his efficient team members Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Verma, Additional Professor, Pediatric Hepatology, King George Medical University, Lucknow and Mr. Ram Naresh, Clinical Haematology, Sanjeev Gandhi PG Institute, Lucknow.
Prof.(Dr) Anil Kumar Goel, remained the cornerstone of the course guiding the faculty and students throughout the workshop and his experience and leadership was reflected in the whole coordination. The external faculty and students gave heart filling reviews for the way the workshop was conducted and the efficiency in time management, other aspects like the Audio-visual arrangements, The Workshop ended by the dusk of the third day after the Assessment Exams and distribution of the Participation Certificates to the candidates with new-lit positive spirits and hopes and instilled confidence that everybody can be more ready for successfully resuscitating a sick child.
