ACEE Fellow Dr. Nisanth Menon N was conferred the ‘TAIWANESE RESEARCH AWARD’ for his research work in the field of Rural Emergency Medicine which has helped him develop the RECTIFY – “Rural Emergency Care Training for Physicians” training programme. He received the award from Prof. Shin Jang Hwang, Head of the Chinese Taipei Medical Association in recognition of his pioneering work during the conference in the Wonca awards ceremony.
22nd WONCA World Conference: The 22nd WONCA World Conference was held in Seoul, South Korea from 17-21 October 2018. The conference was organized by the World Organization of Family Physicians (WONCA) in association with World Health Organization (WHO) and the Korean Academy of Family Physicians. The conference had more than four thousand delegates with representation from almost all countries across the globe.
Dr. Nisanth was also part of the Wonca Emergency Medicine Group round table meeting wherein he expressed his views on collaboarating Emergency Medicine special interest groups with Emergency Medicine Association of India (EMA) to empower rural areas in the South Asia, European and African regions with regards to quality emergency care and researches in the domain of rural emergency medicine.
Dr. Nisanth also lead a two-day workshop titled ‘Rural Emergency Care Training for Physicians’ – RECTIFY in collaboration with WONCA Special Interest group in Emergency Medicine (EMSIG).
The Rural Emergency Care Training for Physicians (RECTIFY) workshop
The RECTIFY workshop spread across two days was an innovative emergency medicine training imparted to primary care physicians from rural areas. The objective of the workshop was to capacitate rural primary care physicians across the globe by training them in successfully stabilizing sick patients in resource-poor settings. The faculty included American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Cheif Dr. John Cullen, Wonca Rural working party Chair Dr. John Wynn-Jones, Wonca EMSIG chair Dr. Victor Ng (Canada), Dr. Joy Mugambi (Kenya), Dr. Elena Klusova (Spain),Dr. Kim Yu (USA), Dr. Will Leung ( Hong Kong), Dr. Pramendra Prasad Gupta and Dr. Santosh Kumar Dhungana (Nepal).
The workshop covered three modules – One on toxicology, the second on Rural Trauma Life Support and a third on Emergency cardiac and paediatric life support for the rural areas. Delegates from more than 40 countries including Australia, Brazil, Japan, United Kingdom, Philippines, Africa, UK, USA, Canada, Srilanka, Fiji and West Indies participated in the workshop.

Dr. Nisanth Menon Nworks as Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur in Kerala. An alumni of Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, he also holds a fellowship in Family Medicine from Christian Medical College, Vellore and is certified in biostatistics from IIT, Madras. A fellow of Academic College of Emergency Experts (ACEE), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and World Health Organization (WHO), he has 8 publications in indexed journals, more than 30 oral papers and posters presented at various conferences,won 6 academic scholarships and awards and is a regular invited speaker for various international and national-level conferences. His special area of interest is rural emergency medicine, primary emergency care empowerment, critical illness research and wilderness Medicine.
