EMA Leader Murtuza Ghiya, had the good fortune of being a part of a merger of 2 worlds he is passionate about- Real emergency medicine and Reel exciting drama!
He was appointed technical assistant to director for a semi fictional TV series on interesting emergency medicine cases.
It has 13 episodes, exclusively on Times Now every Saturday 9.30am and Sunday 1.30pm.
He also managed a small role as supporting actor in one episode too!
This is what he has to say about his recent experience- “I have always believed (partly due to my training in a holistic institute like St.Johns Medical College) that best doctors are not necessarily the ones who always memorize facts and get all the diagnosis right.
A holistic doctor (which is the need the hour) pursues other passions, which indirectly helps with various soft skills required to be an emergency physician, since EM is like no other specialty in terms of the need for leadership, team work, skillful communication, body language and emotional intelligence.
We work in shifts- and while shift work has its own disadvantages, we have one big advantage- no pagers/phone calls off shift. This could be utilized to pursue other hobbies that many doctors may not be able to, as they may be required to return to the hospital stat, upon a phone call.
It was an amazing experience to learn the nuances of film making and appreciate various aspects of teamwork and creativity while also creating public health awareness through this form of art. I learnt the value of patience, behind the scenes hard work and mutual respect among professionals of different backgrounds. I sincerely hope more and more health care professionals power themselves with their various passions (outside the ER) while also making sure they remain in over all good physical and emotional health.
I am Very grateful towards my friends, family and colleagues, to have helped me understand the big picture and take baby steps towards a more wholesome career and life!”
Congrats Murtuza !
