Few days ago INDUSEM Leader Dr. MD Yunus accomplished a landmark feet when he cycled his way to the highest motor road in the world – The KHARDUGLA PASS.
Accompanied by colleagues from Scotland and Germany “Yunus” as he is called in INDUSEM started a long journey on his mountain bike and rode to 18380 feet thus setting a new benchmark for all his colleagues and friends to accomplish.
Yunus is travelled on his bike through National Highway 1 from Leh to Lamyuru then via Kalasi. He also rode in the Batalik sector which is the land of apricots.
Yunus is a well-respected faculty leader at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), An INDUSEM focus of National Importance. He leads many INDUSEM initiatives and is very active in establishing Academic Acute Care Sciences in the North Eastern Part of India.
An Anesthetist by training he has a keen interest in Education and Environmental Medicine. He works closely with the Research Team at INDUSEM to design initiatives centered on above areas.
In his conversations Yunus says that he adheres to a strict wellness routine which includes a balance with work, exercise and rest. Routine Practice on the bicycle and keeping a focused mind set on the goal is the corner stone of his success.
He believes that striking a balance is the first step to good health.
That’s a lesson everyone should learn.

“Khardung La (Khardung Pass, la means pass in Tibetan) is a high mountain pass located near the Khardong village, in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The local pronunciation is “Khardong La” or “Khardzong La,” but, as with most names in Ladakh, the romanised spelling varies.The pass on the Ladakh Range lies north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies part way up the latter valley. Built in 1976, it was opened to public motor vehicles in 1988 and has since seen many automobile, motorbike and mountain biking expeditions. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.The elevation of Khardung La is 5,359 m (17,582 ft)[1] [2] [3] Local summit signs and dozens of stores selling shirts in Leh incorrectly claim that its elevation is in the vicinity of 5,602 m (18,379 ft) metres and that it is the world’s highest motorable pass.Khardong La is historically important as it lies on the major caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia. About 10,000 horses and camels used to take the route annually, and a small population of Bactrian camels can still be seen at Hunder, in the area north of the pass.
