INDUSEM Brings EM to Himachal !
Himachal Pradesh (HP) Cabinet, in the month of October 2015, approved the creation of Departments of Emergency Medicine (EM) in two Medical Colleges, one at Shimla and the other at Kangra. Each College will have two units of Emergency Medicine and a faculty structure of one Professor, two Associate Professors and three Assistant Professors has been approved by the HP cabinet. These Departments will soon apply for MD seats in EM, which are likely to be approved for the batch of 2017 after the inspections by MCI in 2016. With the given faculty structure, 8 MD emergency Medicine seats can be expected to start in 2017 in HP.
HP has become the first State in North India and 9th overall to have established this Department in the country. Other states running EM courses are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
INDUSEM has played a crucial role in bringing EM into reality in this Sub-Himalayan State of India.
The two departments and residency Programs will be created at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda& Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla. Himachal is also the Home State of Union Minister of Health Shri. JP Nadda.
INDUSEM Leader Dr. Vivek Chauhan, an Assistant Professor in Medicine from Tanda is a Fellow of academic college of emergency experts in India (FACEE) since 2011. He was awarded ‘Jan Suraksha Paritoshik’ in the 11th Indo-US World Congress of Emergency Medicine 2015, held at AIIMS New Delhi this year. Dr. Vivek along with three faculty members in these two colleges who are INDUSEM Leaders have lead the effort to bring Academic EM in Himachal. Dr. Pramod Jaret and Dr. Madan Kaushik, both Associate Professors in Medicine have become FACEE in 2015 from IGMC Shimla.The whole faculty development of Academic EM in Himachal will be done by INDUSEM in the next two years.
