EMKERALA 2024, was held at Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, from November 23 to 24, 2024. With robust participation from healthcare professionals, students, and experts, the event showcased innovations, academic excellence, and collaborative discussions that are shaping the future of emergency medicine in India.

Distinguished leaders namely Dr. V. V. Unnikrishnan (Principal of KUHS Academic College), Professor Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi (Director WHO collaborating centre for Emergency and Trauma, JPNATC), Dr. Mohammed Haneef M (Emergency Medicine Association India, South Zone Regional Secretary), Rev  Fr. Renny Mundenkurian (Director, Jubilee Mission Medical College), Fr. Paul Chalissery (Assistant Director, Jubilee Mission Medical College), Dr. Benny Joseph Neelankavil (CEO, Jubilee Mission Medical College), Dr. Shibu C. Kallivalappil (Medical Superintendent, Jubilee Mission Medical College), Dr. Babu U Palatty (Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine), Dr. P.C. Rajeev (Organizing Chairman), and Dr. Appu Suseel (Organizing Secretary) championed this unique State level Conference of The Emergency Medicine Association of India Kerala Chapter.

The event began with practical, skill-building workshops tailored to critical domains in emergency care: REVIVE and SAFETi

  2. SAFETi: Skills and Awareness for First aid, Emergency response, and wilderness Training Workshop

EMKERALA 2024 featured Plenary Talks and dynamic Panel Discussions, alongside engaging Postgraduate Research Presentations. The plenary sessions included “EM Beyond Horizons” by Dr. Vimal Rohan, exploring new frontiers in emergency medicine; “ED Administration – Policies and Preparedness” by Dr. Ajith Venugopalan, focusing on operational strategies for emergency departments; and “Gateway of Financial Freedom” by Mr. Sangeeth Cherian, offering valuable insights into personal finance management.

The Panel Discussions addressed key themes: “EMerging Challenges and Evolving Care: The State of Emergency Medicine in India,” moderated by Dr. Nirmal Peter Abraham, with a panel of distinguished experts including Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi, Dr. Chandni Sajeevan, Dr. Varsha Shinde, Dr. P.C. Rajeev, Dr. Vivek Gopinathan, Dr. Vimal Rohan, Dr. Jobin Jose, and Dr. Rahul B, examined advancements in the field. “EMpowering Emergency Medicine in India: The Road Ahead,” moderated by Dr. Ajay A, highlighted strategies for growth, featuring panelists Dr. Babu U. Palatty, Dr. Madhu Srinavasarangan, Dr. Krishna Reddy, Dr. Mohammed Haneef, Dr. Ajith Venugopalan, and Dr. Manu Ayyan.

The Postgraduate Research Presentations, organized by Dr. Arin Eliza Sunny, showcased innovative findings through posters and podium presentations, with a focus on fostering academic exchange and emphasizing residents’ talent in creating graphical abstracts.

The EM PG Quiz, AEGIS, by Dr Aravind Sreekumar and Dr. Roshan P.K. was a major highlight, engaging participants in a spirited academic contest that concluded with a grand finale.

EMKERALA2024 additionally held its UG Conference on the theme “CONCORDIUM THE REBOOT”, an exclusive undergraduate program, on November 9th and 10th, 2024 at Amala Institute Of Medical Sciences. EMA leaders from Kerala have consistently set a shining example of excellence and leadership in academics. This unique conference aimed to inspire the younger generation by showcasing the significance of emergency medicine. Despite being a state-level event, it attracted participants from across the nation, reflecting its immense appeal and the growing interest in the field. The conference witnessed the participation of over 380 students from various medical institutions. It featured engaging sessions designed to sensitize undergraduates about the dynamic and vital role of emergency medicine. With the support of an expert organizing team, the event was a resounding success, leaving a significant impact on the participants. Highlights of the Program The conference was a well-structured blend of academic and practical sessions.

About Fire and Rescue Services Academy (FARSA)

The Kerala Fire and Rescue Services evolved from three separate fire services in Travancore, Cochin, and Malabar, which initially operated under the Police Department with a few fire stations in each region before the formation of Kerala State. In 1949, the Travancore and Cochin fire stations merged, followed by the inclusion of Malabar in 1956, forming the Kerala Fire Service. Renamed as the Kerala Fire & Rescue Services in 2002 to reflect its expanded role in rescue operations, the department now operates 111 fire and rescue stations, with 14 district offices, 6 regional offices, and a Motor Transport wing. Modernization efforts continue to enhance emergency response and public service.
