EM Karantaka 2020 Knocks Kompleteness !

The Emergency Medicine Association Karnataka held its 2nd State Level Conference. The EMA Karnataka Team had hosted the 1st World Academic Congress of Emergency Medicine in 2016 in Bengaluru.

Karnataka’s enthusiastic young EM specialists came together and envisioned an annual meeting for EM in Karnataka; EMKARNATAKA 2020. The dream was to merge individual talents into a singular objective to improve EM care and education in the great state of Karnataka. It was the 2ndannual state level Emergency Medicine conference in collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Association (EMA) of India held in the majestic city of Mysuru.

A diverse group of healthcare professionals attended the conference; undergraduates (UG), nursing staff, Emergency Medicine technicians, Emergency Medicine residents and faculty as well as doctors from other specialties involved in Emergency Medicine.

The Conference started weeks ahead with multiple workshops:

A Quality Improvement workshop was organized in JSS hospital on 09/01/2020 as a part of pre- conference event EMK 2020. Resource faculty for the programincluded Dr. Sonali Vaid MD MPH, Senior Improvement Advisor, University Research co. LLC and Mr. Dheeneshbabu Laxminarayan, Nursing officer, Department of Emergency Medicine, AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Rachana, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, KMC Manipal and Dr.Akshay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi. The delegates included nursing staff, hospital administrators and faculty from other departments. The workshop is based on the point of care quality improvement module (POCQI) developed by USAID ASSIST, WHO SEARO, AIIMS and other international organizations.

A workshop on Fundamentals of Designing and Interpreting Research was conducted in the JSS hospital as a part of preconference event of EMK 2020 on 21st of December 2019 in the telemedicine hall in JSS hospital.

The comprehensive emergency care life support workshop was held in JSS medical college from 8th of January to 12th of January as a part of preconference event of EMK 2020. The workshop is conducted by the Jeeva Raksha Trust and is a joint venture of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement’s Initiative.

The EMKARNATAK2020 Annual Summit was held from 15th to 18th January 2020 at JSS Academy of High Education and Research, Mysuru, Karnataka.

The Conference team stated “Emergency Medicine is flourishing and Karnataka personifies that aspect as much as any other state. With a considerable number of EM specialists graduating every year, evidence-based practice of Emergency Medicine is thriving in the state. EM is a dynamic, team oriented specialty and so, as EM physicians, we should aspire to learn from each other and endeavor to strengthen the bonds of friendship that make us effective as a team.”

The conference had multiple hands-on workshops, scientific sessions, panel discussions and competitions for under-graduates, post-graduates, nurses, paramedics and specialists when offered a learning experience, which was the best.

Led by EMA Leader Dr. Madhu Srinivasarangan and other leaders from the EMA Karnataka Family the 2020 EMK was a grand success.

About JSS Mysore

JSS Medical College, Mysuru, was started in 1984-85 and is imparting education in medical sciences (MBBS) course. It is recognized by the Medical Council of India and was affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore from 1995-1996.
