Connecting Emergency Care with Primary Care

INDUSEM-EMA Leaders from AIIMS in partnership with the Government and International Agencies including World Health Organization conducted a massive training exercise on ‘Strengthening Emergency Care in Primary Healthcare Setting’at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh from 30th January to 1st February 2017.

The Directorate Health Service and Medical Education, Arunachal Pradesh worked closely with AIIMS and WHO to train primary care physicians, nurses and health workers providing care at primary and community health centres and district hospitals of Arunachal Pradesh.

The three-day training focused on the theme of“Recognize, Resuscitate and Refer”.

Sessions were held separately for Nurses and Physicians.

Director Health Services and Medical Education, Research and Training, Dr Moji Jini inaugurated the event. The event was facilitated by Dr Doye (Joint Director DME), Dr Rajan and Dr Nabam Peter.

Dr.Jini empathized the concept of emergency care in primary health care and role of ultrasound in decision making in emergency patients. He emphasized that every patient coming to a primary health centre is an emergency, unless proven otherwise. He promised that basic technology for emergency evaluation and management will be made available to the healthcare providers in the state.

Dr.Nabam Peter welcomed every faculty and participants and Dr Doyeenlightened the participants about the purpose of the workshop. This was followed by a two-day workshop for basic emergency concepts for nursing participants.

The INDUSEM Leaders visited the construction site of emergency department of the medical college building in Naharlagun with Dr Moji Jini, Dr Doye, Dr Rajan Kombo and Dr Nabam Peter. Many aspects of planning and infrastructure were discussed and changes in existing plan were suggested. The host team seeks continued expertise from the INDUSEM Leadership and the Department of Emergency Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi, to establish the emergency department for their upcoming medical college.
