21st July 2009 was a Historic Event as Academic Emergency Medicine was recognized as a Specialty by the Then Medical Council of India.
Since 2009, 21st July is celebrated as EM Bharat Divas across the nation.
This year marks the 14th Year of Academic Emergency Medicine in India.
INDUSEM along with AIIMS New Delhi played a monumental role in the birth of Academic Emergency Medicine and continue to be instrumental till date in spearheading the specialty into its future.
The Landmark celebrations started off with a “Injury prevention Walkathon” which was flagged off by AIIMS Director Professor Dr. Randeep Guleria.
Shri Devendra Singh Bhole, Member of Parliament, Doctors, nurses, paramedics, instructors from Airforce Sports Club and security personnel participated in the walkathon advocating for ‘Injury Prevention’.
A voluntary blood donation camp was organized where doctors, nurses, paramedics and security personnel volunteered for the noble cause.
With the mission of Inculcating EM Prevention in children, a drawing and painting competition was organized for school kids focused on the theme of “Injury prevention”.
This was followed by a hands-only CPR training session and a quiz for doctors and nurses.
The Evening dazzled with inspirational talks led by INDUSEM CEO Dr. Sagar Galwankar.
The other speakers were:
- Dr. Eran Tal-Or, Director of Emergency Department at Poria Medical Center Israel and
- Dr. Raziya Narayan Pendse, WHO SEARO Director of Department of Healthier Populations & Non-Communicable Diseases.
Emotional cords were struck when stories of lives saved were narrated by patients and their relatives which highlighted the fact that trained emergency medical experts make a difference in providing high quality emergency care.
The evening celebrated art and artists from the Department of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS as Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Praveen Aggarwal welcomed all the talent at this unique TALENTS PARADE !
Doctors, nurses and paramedic staff lit up the stage with breathtaking dance moves, melodious song covers, community awareness street plays and artistic poetries as ACEN Director Ms. Nirmal Thakur cheered this celebration of success.
Singer Ritik Gupta and his band “Tabish” rocked the stage as the audience danced away with joy.
Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi, Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, AIIMS New Delhi called this landmark day to and end with sky lanterns lighting up the night sky.
