AIIMS Apex Academic Department of EM Completes 5 Years

INDUSEM Leader, The AIIMS Academic EM Department is celebrating its 5th year of academic emergency medicine. Lead by The Head of the Department Professor Praveen Aggarwal, the Department has strived hard in fostering academic emergency medicine as a specialty across India. Though the proposal for the Department of EM at AIIMS was conceived in the 80s the Department was commissioned in 2011. The First Post Graduate student in EM was admitted via a National competitive test in July 2012.

Today, the department has a team of 8 Full Time Academic Faculty (3 Professors and 5 Assistant Professors) working round the clock to ensure patient safety and optimal emergency care at AIIMS.

The Department of AIIMS EM staffs the Main AIIMS hospital as well as the Free standing Apex Trauma Center which is in an independent location. The Department is proud of the 17 PG MD residents which form backbone of academic emergency medicine and are the future torch-bearers of the specialty. The department has 13 senior residents who are always on their toes for providing best possible care to the huge patient load the department handles. The Department has produced more than 150 Academic High Impact Publications, Citations, and won many national and international awards.

AIIMS – EM led by Professors Aggarwal, Bhoi and Murmu is home to the Mission Headquarters of INDUSEM.

AIIMS-EM has and will continue to play a defining role in setting benchmarks for Education, Evaluation and Excellence in the provision of EM CARE across India and South East Asia.

The most important feature that AIIMS-EM has developed is a core component of Team Work. Equal emphasis has been paid to developing a concept of equal equity between nurses, physicians and paramedics. AIIMS-EM thrives to maintain a good sense of process management and understanding with all departments of AIIMS.

Connecting with all Academic Medical Colleges and Academic NBE Hospitals has been the focus of the Leaders from AIIMS-EM. Fostering the values of AIIMS and Building the Nation as the constitutional mandate of AIIMS which is embodied by the leaders of the department.
